Wachtend en hopend op een teken van leven, kwam het bericht van de dood van onze broer Victor.
Verdrietig laten wij u weten dat onverwacht en veel te vroeg is overleden Victor Karel Christiaan Venema, in de leeftijd van 51 jaar.

Sadly we let you know that Victor Karel Christaan Venema passed away unexpectedly and far too early, at the age of 51.

This is extremely sad news. Victor, an excellent colleague and friend, will always be remembered for his seminal work on homogenisation, for his innovative approach to scientific problems and for his integrity. My sincere condolences to his family, friends and co-workers.

It is very sad news to hear. My deepest condolences to Victor's family and friends. I knew him as a very keen scientist and a kind and generous person. Rest in peace Victor!

So sad to hear the news of Victor's passing. He is so well known internationally for his pioneering work on homogenisation of climate observational data records and open research. Our field won't be the same without his foresight and insights. I send my condelences to his loved ones. We have lost a much loved ally.

My sincere condolences on the loss of Victor. He was a well respected climate scientist whose contributions both to developing climate datasets and to open science will be sorely missed. We only met once in person but developed several projects together, including outreach and on climate feedback. His sense of humour and of humanity always came through. I'm just sorry that a half plan we had to place old instruments at a remote weather station in Greenland never worked out. It's a great shock and with great sadness that I read about his sudden passing. Æret være hans minde, from Copenhagen Denmark.

My deepest condolences. I thoroughly enjoyed the various discussion I had with Victor over the years about climate, science, and how scientists should engage in society. Even though we never met in person, I regarded Victor as a good friend and he will be sorely missed.

Sending sincere condolences from Australia. Victor was loved and respected by the climate community all around the world. He was immensely supportive and very generous, sharing his insights and knowledge of science. We laughed together, too. Victor had a great sense of humour. He will be remembered.

I hope I have spelled your names correctly. I would like to express my sincere condolences to you. I am very sad that Victor has died. We met in Bonn in 2001 and were a couple for 1.5 years. After that we were best friends for a long time. A few years ago, as sometimes happens in life, our contact fell off. I had planned to get in touch with him again in the new year. He was not so good at making and keeping contact. Unfortunately, it's too late now, but who could have known? Victor will always have a place in my heart.
