"You are more than now, You are for always"
Steven J. Turner, 60, of London, England, passed away on May 19, 2023. He was born September 30,1962 to Diane Brockman and Pete Turner, and adopted son to Jean Turner.Steve, a gentle soul and loving husband, brother and uncle is survived by his wife, Andrea; brothers, Phil, Paul, and Nick; sisters, Mandy and Sarah; nieces and nephews, Dan, Anthony, Lauren, Rowan, and Llewelyn. In marriage, Steve was very loved by his large extended family, and leaves behind in-laws Yvonne and Seymour, brothers-in-law Andel, Mark and Michael, sisters-in-law Maxine and Aldale; and over 40 aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and grand-nieces & grand nephews.
Born in Bushy, London, Steve spent his early years living in Canada where he developed a love of ice hockey and a passion for American football. He later returned to the United Kingdom where he spent his formative years in the beautiful Welsh coastal town of Oxwich. One of his fondest memories was looking out from his garden across the Oxwich Bay. He absolutely loved nature and views of the sea. Beyond nature, his passions were motorcycles, music (AC/DC) and he sported beautiful long-hair and leather jackets to match. He was a creative being and worked for his father’s company as a rostrum cameraman. Steve is credited on the 1992 BBC animated version of Under Milk Wood, a radio drama by the Welsh poet Dylan Thomas and voiced by Richard Burton.
Steve met the love of his life, the woman who would stand by his side through thick and thin, Andrea, in London in 2015. The pair found love later-in-life and they shared a passion for technology and all things digital. As two fiercely independent souls, they eloped to America, taking their vows in a wildflower patch at the Red Rock Canyons of Nevada in April 2016. They then spent their month-long honeymoon driving through Zion National Park, Lake Powell, the hills of Sedona and the Grand Canyon. One year later, Steve and Andrea held a wedding breakfast weekend in April in Chipping Campden to honour their parents, Jean & Pete and Yvonne & Seymour. The memory of this day was most special to Steve and Andrea because it brought together two families to celebrate love at one of their favourite locations in the UK, the Cotswolds, a typically English landscape of lovely green rolling hills, stone walls, woodland and charming little towns and villages.
Steve and Andrea settled into married life in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, where Steve continued his career in software engineering, working on flight simulators for the military and other clients. He was a wiz at computer programming and math, he loved computations and solving puzzles and playing video games. He also had a passion for flying and aircrafts, working in the aviation field for most of his career, he particularly enjoyed working on the hardware that trained pilots on how to fly chinooks. Steve was the most interesting person to sit next to on an airplane because he could tell by sound exactly what was happening to the aircraft engines, or worse, what was not happening correctly! During their marriage, Steve and Andrea traveled to many places around the UK, USA and Europe - Wales, Scotland, Nevada, Arizona, New York, New Jersey, Florida, Jamaica, Gozo, Malta, Italy, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Austria and Iceland to name a few.
In 2021, Steve and Andrea decided to settle in the Netherlands and moved to Amsterdam, where he sadly passed away after a brief battle with cancer. Steve died with his wife by his side and is no longer suffering or in pain. His wish was to be cremated in the most ecologically “green” friendly way possible, because of his love and respect for nature and our planet.
Steve was a man with a simple taste of slacks and t-shirts (usually AC/DC or Metallica), he focused on being kind and non judgemental of others, he was a peace-maker in conflict and sought the best life possible without worrying about himself.
Steve was a truly gentle soul whose impact will be forever felt by his family, who love him dearly. He was a selfless man whose passing has left an unfillable gap in the hearts of his loved ones. His ability to be kind, gentle and to forgive, and love will be forever ingrained in all who were fortunate to know him. Steve gave the best, best hugs.
An online memorial service will take place at 4pm on Saturday June 3, 2023, Amsterdam timezone. Those wishing to join may request the Zoom link and passcode by emailing dazework@gmail.com.
